I live in the same metropolitan area as my best college friends, and yet we don't get together as often as we should... but I did get to see them in July, and Kate got to play with her friends - their kids - too :)

I know the feeling- it's usually after a friend of family member moves further away that I realize how many opportunities I missed to get together with them while they were closer.
Very cool that you guys got to visit and have some fun with the kiddos.
