Kate is trying to say more and more words... some are intelligible, some are not :) For the longest time, she just said "mommy", "daddy", "hi", and "'bye", and signed "more" and occasionally "all done". A few months ago I tried some more signs. For the longest time she was just focusing on learning to walk, and I thought now that she had that down, she might be ready for more words. She picked on the new signs immediately. Now, her favorite one is "please". She'll sign that whenever you ask her a question and her answer is yes. She is trying new speech more frequently now, too, and will try to repeat words when you tell her what something is.
Signs:
more
all-done
please
milk
banana
airplane
up
These are words she will actually say (she knows even more):
Mommy
Daddy
Hi
'Bye
Bah (ball)
Baa-baa (sheep)
Duh (duck)
Woof-woof (dog)
Uh-oh
Ow (out, up)
Tsah-ee (Charlie)
Tsee (cheese)
Eye
She will say "Ow, ow!" whenever she wants you to pick her up and take her out of something (crib, high chair, carseat, etc.)
I am trying to get a recording of her saying Charlie (that's our dog's name), because it is so cute, but she is too fascinated with the camera when I have it out.
This past week while we were babysitting, Kate got brave enough to go down the stairs on her own. She has been climbing off and onto furniture for a long time, but hadn't got to practice much on stairs, since we've kept our long flight gated off. She's pretty good going down on her tummy now, though.
Yesterday I was so excited that Kate helped me clean up her toys for the first time, putting several things away. She still loves to explore, play chase, dance, and read her books.

WOW -- she is really getting big! Walking and talking -- now you are in trouble. She will never sit still and will never shut up! It's a "girl thing." Enjoy every minute of her -- she is special!
Love you, Aunt Barb
I love how little ones don't necessarily know that the animal is a cow, but they know it says "moo." My daughter Charlie, knows the entire farm and zoo by the sounds the animals make.
